Robert Whiting’s trompe l’oeil paintings combine both landscape painting and his own particular brand of humor, intertwining his understanding of figurative work and landscape painting into trompe l’oeil piece. Susan Bayard Whiting is inspired by the way light plays with color and the reflective properties of a subject. If the light isn’t casting a hard enough shadow, or she not seeing surrounding color bouncing off elements in a still life setup, then she’s not motivated to put paint to canvas.
